Pivot Practice: Combos

Hey uh. So basically this is similar to the combo thread that lithium has posted some time ago. You post a combo here and either me or the rank team will try to cc it. So uh. I'll get the ball rolling then.

Firecracker? Who the hell is that? jk don't kill me

My own criticism on this anim: The combos have the same timing and it makes things look monotonous and boring. Some parts were a bit too fast, My poses weren't that great especially in the moments where there was foreshortening and the attacks didn't have that much variety except for that flip thing at the end that was totally not inspired by firecracker whatsoever. I have to admit i was a bit lazy and my ideas for combinations got cut short that's why i wasn't able to finish it. But heeey It looks preeety good. To me at least.

Ayo post some stuff guys.

Okay so.. First off, the 2 punches. Make sure not to move the stickfigure in the opposite direction right after the attack, especially the origin point. There are exceptions though, like emphasizing a power in an attack. What you SHOULD do though is to "follow through" your attacks. Basically it's easing your torso into a position so that you can chain another attack. Avoid moving your origin point left and right. If you have to (and you will. A lot.) Try to ease it first or flow it into another direction. As for the kick, you should move your arms in such a way that generates power to the kick. You know how martial artists twist their arms around so that the kick gains more momentum? Yeah that. I also feel like you haven't put your torso into the kick as well. It really reduces the power. Try leaning back more when doing the kick.

All in all it looks preeety goood. I can see that you're improving so far. Keep it up!

Me likey. I love how you added shoulders and different shades to the stickfigure. It really helps with the fluidity of the attacks. It's also pretty powerful. I also loved that he puts his arms around his head and it looks like a realistic boxing pose, very nice.

Now i don't think that you might do this (since I've heard that you were against this and you're all for the perfect 2d plane stuff. At least that's what i've heard) but i highly recommend that you take advantage of the ctrl drag feature and get some foreshortening in those attacks since the follow through of the punches look awkward. There's that pose at the beginning where he does a fighting stance and the legs like, do an upside down "U" shape and it looks symmetrical which looks unnatural.

All in all it looks great. Kinda wished you made it longer, added some kicks and stuff. So yeah.

lmao double post bite me.

Gotcha -Sifter

You've improved a lot on this anim Setto. It still has your flaws though. For example, the poses you chose aren't very powerful. You only put your limbs into it but you forget that you need to lean in the torso to add in some power. Also it still has your very stop and go'ish thing going on with most of your anims. Overall it's an improvement but there's more to be improved on.

Impressive. I can see the accent in the styles that you chose to copy. The poses look great, both of the anims flow very well.

Some of the attacks on the Firecracker anim lack power. For example that spin kick that you eased towards the middle of the anim, If it were up to me I won't ease it and rely on muscle control and flow into the next kick. There's also that last sidekick that you've mentioned. I also feel that you don't use the arms as much to add some momentum into those kicks. Overall I really liked it and it looks great.

As for the Alan anim, you didn't do as much of a good job compared to your Firecracker one, but it doesn't mean it's not a good anim. No it looks pretty nice. Most of the attacks have power except for those last few kicks. The poses you chose weren't very Alan-like especially that last tumble kick thing. And Alan's style focuses on follow through and over smoothening while you have some muscle control that doesn't let it look like Alan's that much. I really like it though, you should keep that style lmoa.

All in all you did an impressive job.

You son of a bitch this looks tight as fuck. The choreography looks spot on and the attacks are readable. I really liked that gut punch at the end it looks like one of those kung fu movies from Jet Li that i watched.

My main problem with this though is how some of the attacks lack fluidity. Sure the guy may move his body in a way that signifies he's attacking but i can't see his arm preparing for the punch. The arm just pops out of nowhere. The same cannot be said with the kicks though since you did them pretty well. Also (maybe this is just personal preference idk.) you should like, make the stickfigure raise his arms as if he's prepared to defend for a counter attack or prepared to attack himself.

All in all you guys posted some pretty dank stuff keep 'em goin.

Mentor me and you'll improve :^)

Anyways I loved the movements man that was so goddamn smooth and you did the punches and the torso correctly.

The shuffle looked weird tho it's as if he was sliding in ice. It's also a recurring problem but the timing is even. Maybe like, add some variety to it like some slow punches then fast. He does that weird crab leg pose tho which is a big mistake that i did since it looked way too unnatural. All in all, it looks pretty nice.
