Sprites. Period; Just make sure they're twice the original size to resize them to 50 in Pivot to get anti-aliased sprites when turning on the super sample4.

This. Though I haven't considered purposefully oversizing them to shrink them in Pivot. Maybe next time I use text sprites I'll do that.

nah i wouldn't bother doing that. if you resize, rotate or make it transparent or flip it, it'll become more laggy. however, make sure you save the text sprites as anti-aliased or otherwise you'll have a headache.

MS Paint (the older version, like XP version) usually works perfectly fine for me.
I remember I started using the new MS Paint, the text kept getting coloured pixels around it.

Try downloading the XP version of MS Paint, might work for ye'

Actually, paint.net does a wonderful job at creating alaised sprites because you can easily switch between alias and anti-alias in a second.
Here, let me make a quick demo:

The result should be something like this

What if you're background is a different colour though, Sifter?

If you go to the Pivot manual, you should be able to see that Pivot crops the color of the bottom left pixel. Since the bottom left pixel was white there, everything that was white had got cropped. If you want to keep the whole thing, add one pixel to the bottom left corner that's colored differently than the rest of the image.

A problem with sprites is that, when one is on the screen, after export you see it changes the tint of the frames they're on. Sifter knows a way to fix it with GIMP but way too much effort imo.

I guess either go through the effort for an alphabet pack, or go through the effort for after-animation editing.
