Staff Vs. Regulars Throwback (Poll)

Postby Ray » Fri Nov 27, 2015 4:25 am

Throwback time you guys. Staff vs Regulars. Do you remember this? It was so much fun to be in and stuff and then to watch all the parts finished at the end. it was awesome. Now I know that we are no where near the amount of animators as back then (And not everyone participated then either). And this isn't one of those "Lets keep hope alive and attempt another 'keep hope alive' collab for the forum" post.

For those that don't remember and/or were not there to remember
Spoiler:
Staff (separated by RT, Admin, Mods) and Regulars created their own characters, divided into teams (Tea Bandits, 50 Shades of Purple, Moderators, Rank Team) and battled each other. At the end, the leaders battled each other also.

But do you think that this
could happen again? If it was going to happen again, would you participate? Do you think this should happen again? If so, what would be different? Who would be the leaders? Would this even be remotely successful?

I'm just curious.

I don't think it would happen, but if it did happen it would be awesome to participate in.

Pretty much any animator's name that made it there has been immortalized. For the same reason people join DDC, I think people would be eager to join this one—myself included.

I dropped out last time this came around and was so disappointed in myself. I'd gladly join in on a new one, but I'm not sure how well it would do.

I've only been animating a frame or two of my project every other day. I'd totally be in something like this, fun and silly.

I'd be interested. Yes I think it could happen again and I think it should since we need more community events like this. There's more of a reason to stay active and the forum just feels more connected. Could it be successful? Well, we don't know unless we give it a try, but near enough 100% of the time these things turn out well, apart from being extended a lot.

Thoughts on this
If we did this, we'd need to downsize the teams to one staff team and one regular team. Otherwise we'd likely only have one moderator or admin animating in those respective groups which would defeat the purpose. While inactive animators were a challenge last time, it was nowhere close to now.

We could still have leader battles too. Each team could pick their respective leaders and then the leader(s) of the regular team and staff team could duke it out.

I'm not sure if rounds should exist or not. The only way I could see it going if it's two teams is to do three rounds in a linear fashion. First round has it's own environment and participants animate for 2 months, second round has a different environment and animators get roughly the same time as the first round. For each round, there is a leader battle between the two leaders of each team (6 leaders total, with 3 on regs and 3 on staff).

Example:
Spoiler:
(Jan-Feb)
Round 1 (Grasslands)
Leader Battle (Sifter vs LordPivot)

(Mar-Apr)
Round 2 (Lava Pit)
Leader Battle (...)

(May-Jun)
Round 3 (...)
Leader Battle (...)

Something like that I could see working, but the main obstacles are time (no surprise) and the cycling. People might burn out by round 3 for example, even if they only animate once for each round.

How does this sound to you guys though? We could give it a go for the first round and see how that goes and if people are still ready to go after that, we could do the further 2 rounds. If we only did one round then the leader battle could be a 3v3 or 5v5 match.

I like the idea of doing one round and seeing how it goes.

I'd be up for creating another community collab.
How I would see it is we create a small type of storyline. It would be something like the staff got too powerful and we turned regular users into slaves. Now the regulars are fed up and you guys have formed together to take the site back into good hands.
Thinking about that, maybe the leader could have been DA? And the staff were offered a lot of money to do his wishes. All the regulars were treated badly and deserted and now you guys are fed up and want to take back the site?
