Jobs

Postby Ray » Fri Jul 08, 2016 9:50 pm

How old were you when you got your first job? Where do you work now? Where are all the places you've worked before? What was it like? Where do you want to work? What job do you want to be your career? Basically just talk about jobs and shit.

I've wanted a job since like forever and since I'm 16 now I had applied everywhere haha.

My first job was being an extra for this tv show about to come out on the 17th. "Vice Principals". They needed highschool kids and I got the memo late so I was only there for two days while others were there all summer long getting pink slips. (Pink slips = lots of money lol). I ended up getting $140 for both days. The experience was fun but sooo tiring having to do the same thing over and over again.

My second and current job was at Burger King.My sister worked here for a while before she moved and she recommended me and soon after I got the job she got employed at amazon and moved. I work the specialty board which is anything not a burger really. Chicken and stuff like that. My experience here has not been very pleasant because of overbearing not-managers. And by "non-manager" I mean an employee who has been working a long time and thinks they are a manager so they keep telling you you're doing things wrong.

When I first started working there I was really slow because I had never worked with fast-food before. But now, after being here for almost 3 months I am pretty good but people dont see that, they only see that quiet and slow kid that came in on the first day. People talk about me behind my back also. I only have one real person I can say is actually my friend here.

You can probably guess that I started looking for another job already. I have an interview for Bi-lo tomorrow morning so I'm hoping that goes well cuz I can't do this much longer. I'm gonna try and stay away from fast-foods.

What about you guys?

There was a movie shot with Ryan Reynolds and Samuel L. Jackson in Amsterdam a few days ago and also one with Tom Hardy almost a month ago in a city close by, but I forgot to apply as an extra for the the one in Amsterdam and I'm too tall to apply for the one with Hardy, so my career as an extra isn't of to a flying start, but I'll try to make better use of it next time there's an opportunity. It's pretty easy money after all.

As for jobs I have actually had, there's really only two real ones.

When I was 16 I worked as a cashier in a supermarket for a year and a half. I liked being in contact with people. In contrary to most colleagues, I really talking to the very weird people the most probably. And with weird I'm talking about those hobo-esque people or ones that talk utter bullshit. Like telling me they can't buy weed now that they're spending their money on orange juice. Also some people were just really nice to me. I wasn't one of those expressionless cashiers you might often get at your supermarket, I tried to enjoy my work and people appreciated that. After a year and a half though, you get really tired of scanning groceries and I quit right before my summer vacation.

I currently work at a beautiful cinema called Tuschinski (picture), which is in the heart of Amsterdam. I've been working here for about a year and a half too. The job itself is getting pretty repetitive as well, even though it includes a lot more variety than the previous one. There are a lot of premieres and other events though, which keeps it interesting. Because the theater is so beautiful there's often movie cast, sometimes very famous actors, which brings a lot of media and hype. Also my colleagues are awesome, which is probably the real reason I still work there.

I'm considering to find another job, mostly because I want a new challenge and a better pay, but I'm not too good at job hunting, so I'm waiting that one out a little longer.

my first job was a cashier at a target which fucking blew because all the supervising staff were people in their late-twenties - early thirties going through their midlife crises early
second job was at the same place but in the warehouse which was cool as shit because i got my own shift where no one else was working in the warehouse so i was just doing shit by myself

closest thing i got to a job now is people throw money at me to draw them things sometimes, gets me a fair bit though
i've got $400 USD saved up in a paypal account for a rainy day

Saved up $500 for back to school shopping because I have to do that shit myself now.

Daniel that cinema is spectacular. I believe I might've sene pictures of it before.

EDIT: I just got back from my BiLo interview and it was pretty standard. Expecting a call pretty soon.

When I was 12-13, I volunteered at a dog grooming place just watching the dogs in this kind of dog playground thing they had. When I turned 14 and was legally able to work, I started getting paid to do it. I did that up until this spring when the place closed and I'm looking for a new job.

It's funny because there are people that are my age that did end up getting jobs elsewhere, jobs that would rank higher than being a lowly cashier. Not by a whole lot, but just enough that I might be a bit miffed. They even carry those jobs into the school year; it just makes me wonder if I did something wrong during the application process...

Quite the contrary, grocery stores usually hire the cheapest work-forces they can get. One of the reasons I stopped working there was because literally anyone who knew their own name could be your colleague. Now that I work with mostly people who attend university, I don't ever wanna go back.

Tuna, get a job. Money is nice. Though, to be honest, I never needed money until I had it. Now that I have it, I can never go back to not having it.

My main reason. XD

I don't buy a lot of stuff really. I want a guitar but I know I probably won't play it much because I already have a keyboard that I'm learning.
Though maybe as Daniel said; I mightn't want money until I have it. :D

I started working when I was 15, I worked in a powerplant.
I mowed lawns, painted walls and bridges and cleaned floors.
It was a great time, and great pay when I worked there in the summer.

When I turned 18 last year, I joined a new electrician firm, which I'm fully employed, not just a summer job as the powerplant.
I plan on working here for 1,5 years until im fully educated, get some more education and settle in a powerplant again when I'm older.

That's basically every job i've had
