Hip-Hop/ Rap Discussion Thread

Postby Shad Shadson » Mon Apr 28, 2014 3:05 am

Darkdemon needed a thread like this, and if I wasn't gonna make it, No one was (except maybe Ward he likes the Hip-Hop music too). I figured I'd share my love of Hip-Hop with everyone and give an area for people where they could learn about Hip-Hop or discuss it with their fellow users.

But Shad, I'm new to Hip-Hop and don't know where to start!?

Don't worry bud, I GOT YOU!

Look at some of that shit first! You can probably just look up the albums on Youtube and listen to that shit.

Hell, I still use this to see if I'm missing anything big (it's always nice to find something you never knew about before and enjoy it)

So I'm gonna further elaborate on Oxymoron because I feel like it matters and it's recent.

Q killed that gangsta rap vibe shit. Fuck LA, Gravy and Yay Yay are my jams. I love Man of the Year too. I notice a lot of these songs kind of have a 'depressed', kind of dark sort of instrumentation, and I've been into that shit for a while. I dunno why but I REALLY like that sound. Also been digging Lupe's The Cool a ton too. Probably need to get more of Lupe's shit and I've been meaning too but I just haven't found it compiled in a neat enough way.

AND THEN YOU SHOOT YOUR COUSIN IS THE WORST ROOTS ALBUM I'VE HEARD. I'M NOT WRITING ANYTHING ABOUT IT, FUCK THAT ALBUM. AS FAR AS I'M CONCERNED IT DOESN'T EXIST.

I haven't listened to Lupe in FOREEEVEEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRRRRRRR. Don't know why, I used to really like him. I respect your taste in music man, I probably listen to a lot of the same artists as you. I have a wide variety though, so yeah. I love Schoolboy Q, I've been listening to him a lot lately. I have stuff ranging from Gangstarr to Lil Wayne to Mos Def, I'd definitely choose 2 Pac and KiD CuDi over all my other artists If I had to choose. Rap has become a little less generic and tasteless and artist have started to release genuine music explaining their life more, but these two have done it from the beginning and I love their music for that. I love both of their unique sounds too, I can't wait for KiD CuDi to release new stuff and Pac's old music will always sound good to me. I'm always looking forward to his stuff can't wait for Man On The Moon III.

Fuck trap music.

^ Nice, +1 for you man. It's been a long time since I heard that Inspectah Deck song.

Sup Shad, lol.

Apart from the usual I've been listening to a lot of Isaiah Rashad, Jay Rock, The Clipse, Outkast, Lloyd Banks and old Snoop Dogg.
Still pretty much waiting for Joey Badass' upcoming project "B4.DA.$$", set to release somewhere this year.

Oh, remember that Dutch rapper, Mr. Probz, I kept promoting a while back in these threads?
Probably not, but like I predicted he's really moving up. He made it to 50 Cent's new album. Can't wait to hear that track.
Here's the tracklist:

I only listen to super mainstream hiphop and rap like Eminem, Jay-z, Kanye West. Kinda "undergounrd" I only know Watsky and e-dubble.
Lately I'm listening to some national rap, if anyone understands portuguese check out this, really nice groove
