Played it.
Everything is perfect !!
(except for minor bugs that will be hotfixed soon)
Expert mode : First impressions.
A simple zombie with an melee weapon on him can deal up to 70 damage, and you can't hit it with a wooden sword without getting hit back.
Also, the wooden yo-yo's saved my life in early game. I'm currently trying to take down the eye with the crimson gun, but I still get surprised by his ninja pattern.
Tomorrow, I will have my revenge.

Tried doing an expert mode playthrough with Extra, Koolcid, and Toast earlier, and it just bombed. I've never been so scared of slimes in my life :^)
Doing my own expert playthrough right now, and I'm still terrified of slimes and going underground.
Also, went on my 1.2 world to fight the pirates. Was dissappointed with the miniboss, and was hoping for something cool. Only got a few silver from killing it ;-;

Doing a playthrough with some friends on Expert Mode while some others are away/busy.
I've got to say, the most OP weapon we found so far is the slime mount. You get that next to a roof and you will do > 300dps for a second or so.
So far everything is pretty fun, been a while since I properly enjoyed Terraria last.

I'm playing through it with a few friends but our progress is reeeally being stunted by his need to build a big ass castle for all our npcs.
We dont even have the nurse.

Same here : only wood yoyo. I just dyed the string and bought a purple counterweight from one of the new NPCs.
My friend and I also found a granite biome and we mined the shit out of it.
It makes really cool and futuristic furniture :)

Expert mode is fucked. I've never been so fucking ruined in my life and love it :^).
Best thing to do is use gravitation potions you find to get a sunfury/acessories or a bow and frostfire/jester arrows or break the crimson hearts/shadow orbs with sticky bombs and hope for a musket. All good early items imo.
Biggest problem with the eye is I'm pretty sure you need hermes + swiftness pots or you're fucked. I STILL haven't killed him, might just try and kill the eater/brain instead.

I'm getting much progress in expert mode
But now, I'm stuck on skeletron. He has so much defense, it's crazy.

I've been making tons of progress with my world. Thanks to an amazing luck streak i got an enchanted sword, hermes boots, tons of life, and a sandstorm in a bottle, as well as enough for a topaz hook, so i suddenly became much more mobile and stronger than I was, so I went straight for the dungeon. Coming out with some cool shit i think I'm ready for the eye of cthulu

I feel like achievements kind of ruin the point of Terraria.

How? I can't think of a possible reason that would be the case.

Terraria is a game that allows you to do whatever you want to do on your own tempo. You can strive to achieve great things within the game by trying to beat the toughest bosses or whatever, but you can also choose to just build a house and farm some trees or whatever.
With achievements it takes the feeling of full freedom away and it just gives you a checklist of stuff you need to do.
