I've been playing minecraft for quite a long time, I have some mods, but I need more. Any recommendations?

I would recommend getting tekkit. Run version 1.2.9d and add Tinker's construct, Chisel, optifine and openblocks (requires updating a few mods in tekkit but I've had not issues thus far). Literally changes the game. I'm going to try adding extrabiomesXL when I start a new game because I think that's all it really needs.

I've heard FTB is pretty good too but from the lets plays I've seen it looks quite unstable and it runs on an older version of minecraft. Tekkit currently works for 1.6.4.

Here are some screenshots from my most recent tekkit save. Just moved bases so no automation set up or nothing too crazy but a good example of the additional mechanisms large modpacks include. According to Forge I'm currently at 112 mods :D

If only the redstone cable feature of Eloraam's redpower mod was still here, i would have been stuck on minecraft forever.
