What's up everyone, just finished getting my bachelor's degree in animation!

Man what a run, I improved so much as an artist and animator in these past 4 years... and this all started from making pivot animations as a kid all the way back in '07. So if anyone still remembers who I was, this is my thesis film!

Time to go lose my passion for animating by slaving away on children's cartoons in the industry!

Congratulations, and I wish you luck on your journey through animation. Also, those projects look pretty good

paper animation? Like, animations made with a pencil and a paper?

Yeah. They want us to only do that first year so the entire focus is on the animation itself. Second year and onward we get cintiqs and do everything digitally on programs like flash and toonboom.

I actually can't stand it. It takes so much more effort to find errors and edit frames (because you need to scan the pages just to preview the scene). You do get a lot more accuracy on paper though, and I like that.

I finished another assignment that I wish I spent more time on. A few easy to fix errors that I couldn't be bothered to edit and I wanted to add some hair to make things a bit more interesting.

My next assignment is actually pretty interesting though and we get a lot of creative freedom. It's minimum 15 seconds long and two characters interacting, so expect that in a couple of weeks.

This is awesome! Exactly what I am planning to do next year or the year after. How long is the course? Also did you have to submit a portfolio in to try get a place?

I've always loved your animations, and these are no exception! The only thing I can really say about the last one is that he seems to snap back in place a bit too fast imo, but that may just be me being awkward. Good stuff! (thumbsup

No, it does snap back pretty fast. I guess that his main objective is to get the throw down. The rest of the animation was probably made to prevent making things look kinda awkward or something idk

Lol, thanks guys. I actually finished the animation and scanned it about 15 minutes before class. I animated the snap back after the throw in maybe 5 minutes and I didn't have time to add more inbetweens.

And Juke it's a 4 year course. Yeah I had to submit a portfolio, it was really tough. Only 1 in 7 people make it in. Every course in the program is so interesting and fun though, and the rest of the 4 years sound even better. It's really a dream come true.

Any chance you could show me your portfolio? I have to make one next year to try and get into 4 year course I'm going for.

Here I just took a picture of most of them with my phone, shitty quality but you get the idea (I had the hands scanned already though):

There are actually a surprising amount of international students in my program, I'd say 30% of students are from out of the country.

Wow, you actually know your shit. I wasn't really impressed from your traditional animations, at all... But you have a very, very good understanding of drawing poses and whatnot, everything looks really fucking clean and nicely stylized. I wish I could draw like that. (frown
