Postby Coweetie » Tue May 27, 2014 7:39 am

Hello there!
Thank you all alot for your help. I was sitting around, reading alot of stuff, sorting, re-searching and finding information.
Now i got the chronological order of pivot's and stykz's as well as PA's, DD's and stykz.net history bundled in one list (the most important things by now)
I would like to thank you by showing it to you, you may be interested in it also. If you have any thing you want to be added, just post it.

Timeline of Pivot's, Stykz and community history

2003/2004

Peter Bone invents Pivot

The reason for Peter Bone to create a gif-program was that his other gif-program had expired, the second reason was to make one for his younger brother. Back then, Peter was age 24, his brother Dave was around 17.
Peter Bone did not intend to make the Program well-known, neither did he make it for any profit.

August 2004

Peter creates the Pivot MSN Group.

The Group gets thousands of Users, getting more people every day.

September 2004

The MSN Group got closed

The MSN Group gets attacked by spammers, posting thousands of tiny images, which caused a shutdown of the Group by MSN. MSN disabled the group.
Source: http://www.pivotanimation.org/forum/vie ... ?f=33&t=17

November 2004

Adam creates Darkdemon.org

Adam created the DarkDemon domain in late 2005(?), basing it off of his own internet persona (his forum username was originally DarkDemon), the domain housed a forum extension that was managed by Bert. Adam later created a portal that became the main site. Over time the forum became the main focus and the portal faded into the background before being shutdown.

Spring 2005

The reactivation of the MSN Group

Del/Michael reactivates the disabled MSN group, not intentionally for pivot but for his own purpose.
Masses of people join again, saying how nice it was to see the site back. The MSN Group was blooming again, old member re-joined and Peter, along with some others, explained to Del/Michael what the group was about.
They started to add Ranks and other ideas, and made the group even better.

within 2005, Peter Bone releases Pivot 3 for the MSN Group. He originally told them not to share it with others, since it was a Beta version. But the fire wasn't stoppable, Pivot 3 soon was to be found on many other upload-sites.

Summer 2007

Ken (stykzman) creates Stykz

The original Idea of Stykz was to make a development out of the Pivot's idea. At this time, Peter Bone didn't develop Pivot any further. Ken started to make the Program based on PIvot's static segments idea, adding a bunch of other helpful features to it, which were based on user's ideas.
Stykz had a good time, the stykzforum was full of motivated animators and users who were reporting bugs, posting ideas for further versions.

February 2008

MSN Grous announced the closure of MSN Groups
Bunneh Wabbit imports the Group to pivotanimation.tk

In October 2008, Microsoft announced the MSN Groups Service would close down on February 21, 2009. Users would still be able to retain their information even with the closure.
Bunneh Wabbit founded the site pivotanimation.tk, where the community continued.

November 2010

Stykz becomes part of Darkdemon.org

Darkdemon.org decided to make a partnership with stykz, since the stykz-community arose fast and seemed to be the replacement of pivot.
The site got an own section for stykz, which was not to be ranked.

March 2011

Adam retires

After a long and successful leadership, Adam decided to retire as webmaster of Darkdemon.org. He tried to find a good replacement for him, someone who could lead such a big forum like this.
Soon, a User named Molilla became the new webmaster.

July 2012

last post of stykzman

All of a sudden, Ken/stykzman was nowhere to be found anymore. He did not announce any retirement or break from developing stykz, everyone was just waiting for him to get back.
His last post did not show any intention to leave stykz or the community.

January 2013

Peter Bone invents Pivot 4

After years passed, Peter Bone decided to come back, making a new version of pivot. The animators were glad to see him revolutionizing the entire program. Peter took suggestions of users and added them to the new version of Pivot. since then, Pivot 3, which was a Beta version, was no longer available on his site.

April 2013

the stykz part of Darkdemon.org got removed due to inactivity

A few people still were using Stykz, but since the disappearance of the developer it basically was dead already. Darkdemon.org decided to remove the extra-section for stykz and merged it with the other program section.

May 2013

Mollila retires

After good 2 years of leading the site, mollila retires as webmaster, giving it away to another one. He did not intend to let the site down, he simply found out that it would take alot of more time to successful lead the site, even though he did his best. So he searched for an interested buyer.
In May 2013, he announced the change of webmasters- a User named Darkadmin got the ownership. This changed DD in a whole new level.

Source:

http://www.animator.net/forum/announcem ... apple.html

In May 2013, Darkadmin migrates darkdemon.org with animator.net
The new owner, Darkadmin, migrated the whole forum with a domain called animator.net. Just as migrations are, some old posts got lost, as well as causing little trouble with User's ranks or similar.
The Darkdemon's new name therefore was animator.net.

Source: http://www.animator.net/forum/announcem ... r-net.html

October 2013

Since animator.net was based on pivot animations, Krusty created ArtAngle which is a site for artists. Lots of the staff migrated over, causing animator.net to make bigger staff changes.
Source: http://artangle.net/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=12

In November 2013 , Raymond became the new Admin of animator.net.
Source: http://www.animator.net/forum/announcem ... rator.html

In December 2013 ,the staff on animator.net got changed again.
Source: http://www.animator.net/forum/announcem ... group.html

April 2014

Thedarkdemon.com were created

The webmaster of animator.net, DarkAdmin, did let down the entire community, leaving the community in the dark. No one really knew if the webmaster disappeared or not. The current staff tried to contact him in many ways, which seemed to be either unread or ignored.
As this continued month by month, parts of the staff did not longer wanted to wait for him to appear again. Juke created thedarkdemon.org, along with others of the animator.net staff.
animator.net got spammed by people, trying to get others to thedarkdemon.com or simply trying to get DarkAdmin to post something.
Darkadmin responded with bans, downgrading staff member and normal member.

Some time later, DarkAdmin seemed not to even delete spam posts anymore, deactivated the possibility to edit own Threads due to the trouble, and also either turned off the search function or just left it there broken.
Currently, animator.net seems to be abandoned of DarkAdmin, leaving the community or newly joining users in a kind of broken forum.

Original post
Spoiler:
Hello guys,
I am planning a "new" animation referring to the origins and birth of pivot and Darkdemon.

I'd need some help about DD's history (admins and markable people/moderators/animators).

The biggest problem I have is to find out which animators and moderators were popular at the beginning of DD and in the continuing years.
Especially from the beginning. I'd need remarkable people from the start of DD,like, good animators and moderators.

I'd need to know if adam made DD or if he just bought the site.

Also about pivot.
When was it first released?
Why did Bone make it? (cheesecake told me, he made it for his little brother, true that?)
when did 3.2 come out and why? as far as i know(i know very little..) it wasn't planned to get out to public.

-----------------------
what i know, is that adam gave DD to mollilla, and mollilla gave it to mr appleface (darkadmin).
I remember some staff people like crono, skype, jon.

i would like to put in markable people in the animation who can be assigned to this site.
thank you in advance for posting your knowledge.

e. i tried to look around with https://archive.org/ but its still hard to find out which people were popular back these days. i hope someone has some idea.

All I know is that peter made the programe on January 22, 2003 because his brother wanted to make stickfigure animations with constant propotions. Originally, the programe wasnt going to be named Pivot. He saved the project file under the name of Pivot to easily find it whenever he gets back to resume on it. Eventualy, the name got stuck with it.

haha, listed!

eventually it would be a good help to know how you would like to be displayed as pivot figure. actually,it would be helpful to know how the current admins and moderators and such would like to look as figure, even i dont know yet which people would get in the animation..
as i said, i need to know which people were the most popular, back then when DD was created u ntil now..

@sifter, that fact is awesome then. pivot got popular without bone wanting it to be popular or...what :D

Really felt like this needed to be posted!

DD History by Darren (fka Bahamut)
Image

Notable people that I'm aware of that haven't been mentioned (I joined DD in 2012), Slashed, Sharpshooter, Krust, Lithium, they were final admins before ArtAngle started up and they handed down the site to Raymond and myself due to being sick of the lack of control at A.Net, the thousands of bots & unapproved posts and the absence of DA.

DA turned back up shorly after myself and Ray gained control, he popped in here and there and implemented some of our requests while we kept the forum in moderation, organized events and took care of the rampant bot situation. Pretty much re-made the staff team.

DA stopped replying to our messages, didn't visit the site anymore - we got sick of it (we were really glorified moderators rather than admins with the permissions he had set upon buying and re-working DD - no control). Contemplated building a new site but we were never really sure or in complete agreement until Juke came out and took initiative by building a test version of the site. We liked it. Juke joined us on the admin team and the three of us & Bladez (a friend of Raymond's that initially funded the site as well as provided knowledge and his experience on how to work the back-end of the forum) set up and rebuilt the old DD on the new domain of TDD.

With the help of tenks, Mitch, Nice Pants and the odd suggestion & contributions from other members we developed the site into what it is now, adding back in the VIP features, custom nodes, smilies and what not. That pretty much sums up how everything went down since the A.Net transfer.

Edit: As for animators and older noteworthy members, search the the veteran, elite and hall of fame sections of A.Net. Could also try messaging Bolt, Elliott or Slashed (Slashed isn't here but you can reach him on ArtAngle).

History of the first online community (MSN group) and PA is here

http://www.pivotanimation.org/forum/vie ... ?f=33&t=17

Another reason for me creating the first version of Pivot was that the animated Gif patent had just expired. Pivot 3 was around 2005. I only posted it on the MSN group for people to try and told them not to share it, but they obviously did.

Elliot also took a major part when Adam left and sold the site, as the the the owners did nothing, everything was on Elliot who couldn't do THAT much either. But he did a great job on sustaining the forum and keeping it moderated properly!

@lush, that animation was great, and yeah, its somehow similar to mine, but i plan it different (happy2
the history you wrote is very helpful too

@peter,thank you for that link, that helps alot too- i already wondered how pivot could get such popularity if no one would post it somewhere (in case you would only have made it for private use)
(also, youtube was invented 2 years after that)
