Music Production

Postby neilhavkin » Mon Sep 29, 2014 4:09 pm

Music production deserves a thread. I know a few people on here aside from me who produce music, but I'd like to get to know all the producers here and their little production methods and tricks.

My name is Neil and I produce psytrance for fun. I'm getting better and better every day. I started out producing hands up, then transitioned to trance and now I've branched into psytrance.

One of my favorite plugins is Psytrance Bass X1, a VST plugin made by 123creative. It's really cheap and is just great.

And there's some great free kick samples out there that I found, they sound superb.

I also started reading a short online trance production guide, which is very informative and simple.

Some of the best psytrance samples can be gotten from Terence McKenna speeches.

Good stuff.

I have a p good friend who makes music and he's inspired me on many occasions to jump into it, but I can never get around to it. I admire people who try it though, even if it is half assed brostep.

Also don't mind if I put in my free mastering tip

Choose the "Max loudness" in the Preset section in Fruity Limiter and just turn Thres down on Fruity Fast Dist

I assure you that you will be making music like a pro once you keep these settings

Great mastering tip! Helps a lot.

Anyone here know any good tips for EQing? I've been working on this new psy track at 164 bpm but I'm having trouble adding anything but kick and bass because everything keeps effing up EQ wise.

On a similar note, anyone know of where to find some good samples for psytrance, like swirls and stabs - or any good plugins for this?

What genre do you produce and what DAW do you use?

don't do that unless you a)want a song with the exact same volume all the way through or b) want layers of sound to be dipping in and out of the mix. both of those things are terrible and that tip is not good

But... but it sounds good!

Any alternatives? Should I do this to the individual tracks?

Sorry, new to mastering.

Actually that's what the Fast Dist is for, also it's mainly just for the beginning process since it sucks to be making something and having it clip like hell

what is it, some sort of compressor/limiter? either way it's always a lot better to manage the mastering manually
