Pen Practice: Baseball

Postby Raymond » Mon Jan 26, 2015 4:10 pm

I got a Wacom Bamboo Tablet a few years ago for christmas, but I never really used it much. So I wanted to start practicing with it, even though it's not the most efficient tablet. Considering I suck at effects, a lot of the stuff I'll be uploading here will be pretty rough and not so greatly animated, but I'm hoping with each one I can improve.

At first I thought it was legs coming out of the smoke, then I thought it was the wind blowing it away, now I'm not sure.

I wanted it to seem like the wind picked up the smoke at the end. The little bits on the ground is supposed to be debris from the explosion that is still smoldering, but it's hard to display that with only one color (using easytoon).

I'm trying to limit myself to 30-60 minutes for each of these to see what I can come up with. Here's a rocket take off. The ending smoke is really lazy, but I'll focus on the smoke more in the next one. It's really hard adjusting from a mouse to a tablet that has no screen on it.

Alright this is my last one for today. I wanted to create a smoke trail on the ball or something, but after a little over an hour I got tired of it. I'll try and animate some missile launchers or something cool next. Fullbodys are really time consuming :/.

This is what I was going for. Like the sides of the animation were a wall. It probably would of looked better with black bars on the side to represent that or something. Thanks for the advice though Tuna. I've really been having fun with these. :)

The baseball one was nice. Though the batsman's proportions and structure went a bit loose. Keeping a characters shape consistent is the hardest thing when drawing each frame in my opinion. The guy getting hit by the ball was animated beautifully though :)
