It takes a lot of dedication and desire. Trust me, I know. I've tried something of the like for a while.
Short episodes (animation) in a series are ideal, you can release them quickly (enough) and keep you interest alive long enough to not give up halfway through a long thing. Comedy skits work well for this, I suppose.
Longer episodes of series, though, are far more intensive. Through personal experience I've found that if you're looking to make a story arc in a series, you need to give time enough in your episodes (animations) to develop it.

I think I've seen a couple of Pivot zombie series too, but as I said, it's very intensive for one person to do alone.
