!!!!!!!!!! One Piece is still going?!? I used to hate that show, don't know why though. That's so bizarre, the last time I saw an episode was when I still lived in Cali, I was 9. How could they have possibly kept the show going for that long?

filler, like naruto

Actually Wunpiece has the least filler of any of the mainstream shonen animes (Naruto, Bleach, ect).
Whether you're referring to filler as just non-canon anime only stuff, or canon stuff that doesn't advance the plot.
OP is cool because it's a fun ride with a very simple but hard to reach end goal, you can tell Oda really has fun with each chapter.

By the way, anyone else enjoy the super cheesy sports animes?

Not even shitting you, think of a sport and I'll be fucked if there isn't an anime about it.

Cept for maybe shuffleboard and curling.

I feel like it's just, studios realized that a lot of black people were watching crap like DBZ so they figured why not do some stuff like basketball to appeal even further. And it worked. The demographics for those things are huge.

An anime about chess... holy shit i can imagine the tension scenes already...
DAMNT... SHOULD I MOVE THE HORSE, OR THE TOWER!? HE MUST BE READING MY MIND RIGHT NOW!
I am reading your mind right now
I'll move the horse
I knew you would do that *moves X piece*
HA I KNEW YOU WOULD DO THAT!! *moves another X piece*
That happening like 40 times in every episode.

I need recommendations guys. I want to watch something tonight, but I don't have anything specific in mind. What are some good series? Something that has a lot of action and character build would be preferred.

I think the large female fanbase only applies to the animes with good looking guys who sweat a lot.
Hikaru no Go is actually really great, one of the most complete stories I've seen, anime or otherwise. It doesn't hurt that Go is actually pretty damn fun once you know how to play, and it's a game with strategy comparable to chess.

Though really, Code Geass is pretty much a chess anime; countless chess matches, and the main character refers to his soldiers by chess pieces. The anime even has a character who can read minds, and him and the main dude play a match.
